Biography
Olympic silver medalist at the 2016 Rio Games in Greco-Roman wrestling at 66 kg. He lost the final to Serbia's Davor Stefanek on a decision that became one of the most disputed officiating moments of the Olympics — a petition demanding review collected over 37,000 signatures.
Before Rio: silver at the 2015 European Games in Baku and a 2012 Russian National Championship in the same weight class. After the Olympics he moved to mixed martial arts, debuting professionally in Yerevan in May 2018. Notable wins include a finish over Akhmedkhan Akhmedov at Eagle FC 35 in Moscow in 2021.
In 2020 he volunteered in the 44-day war in defense of Artsakh. At AFS 1, Tashir Arena, on April 19, 2026, he stopped Tajikistan's Muhammadrasul Khasanov by TKO in round two in the night's co-main event.
